The Load Behind the Wheel

Lower back pain, and the 90-second unlock.

The seat isn't the enemy — it's the eleven hours in it. Here's why drivers wake up braced, and the mobility flow that undoes a full shift in under two minutes.

It's not the mattress in the sleeper. It's not the seat. It's the eleven hours your hip flexors spent shortened, your glutes spent asleep, and your thoracic spine spent locked. The lower back is the last stop the pain train makes.

The chain of blame

  • Hip flexors shorten from 11 hours of hip flexion (sitting).
  • Glutes turn off — no signal, no fire.
  • Lumbar spine over-extends to compensate for the tight hips.
  • Thoracic spine locks up from the steering-wheel posture.
  • Result: your lower back holds a load it was never built to hold.
The lower back is where every mistake above it and below it shows up.

The 90-second cab-side flow

Run this the second you step down at every fuel stop. Under two minutes. No gear. No excuses.

  • Hip flexor stretch — 20 sec each side. Back knee down, front knee at 90°, squeeze the back glute.
  • Cat-cow on the sleeper bunk — 10 reps. Slow. Breathe.
  • Standing side bend — 10 sec each way. Reach over the top of the trailer.
  • Glute bridge — 15 reps on the bunk. Squeeze at the top.
  • Chin tuck against the headrest — 10 reps. Undoes the phone-neck.

Sleeping right

  • On your side, pillow between the knees. This is the money position.
  • On your back, pillow under the knees. Second best.
  • Never on your stomach. It jams the lumbar spine.

The daily contract

Ninety seconds, every fuel stop. That's it. The drivers who do it are still driving at 55. The ones who don't are on the phone with a lawyer about their spine at 48. FreightFit sets the reminder. You do the reps.
